How to Protect valuable documents

How to Protect valuable documents

Imagine you lost all your photos, videos, documents and other valuable data you have in your computer. What a nightmare, right? Viruses can be devastating, especially if you don’t have an external storage device with all your information. On this post we want to show you a few easy ways to prevent this ordeal by backing up your Windows 10 PC.

What is a backup?

Google defines it as:

“A copy of a file or other item of data made in case the original is lost or damaged.”

And there are two main options: The first one is to concentrate on your personal data files, the second one is for your complete system.

File backup

Allows you to make copies of the data you have stored on your computer. These might be all the important documents, photos, videos and others you have and want to keep safe.

Unfortunately not every user is familiar with this option hence we recommended buying an external storage device like an USB or hard disk and keep safe your backups on it.

System backup

Through this backup you will make a copy of Windows that’s running on your PC, your programs, files and settings as well.

It is a little more difficult than the “File backup”, but the following tips should make things easier for you.

Is there an option on Windows to make a backup?

Windows 10 has different options to make simple file backups and more comprehensive system backups.

Using File History

File History allows you to make scheduled copies of your personal data on your PC. You can store this data in your internal computer hard disk but we don’t recommend it because if something goes wrong with your PC, it will most likely take your backup too. Our recommendation is always store your backups on an independent storage device.

Here we go!

To set up your files you need to open the Start Menu and click on Settings.

Then select Update & Security and then click on the Backup section.

If you see to the right hand panel, you will find the Section Backup Using File History and the following option Add a Drive.

Click on the symbol + and you will see the external hard drives that are connected to your computer. Click on the device that you want to use.

When you return to the Backup section, you will see that the option has changed to Automatically Backup My Files. You can always turn off this option, but we recommend to keep enabled for future regular Back Ups.

If you want to change anything, just click on More Options.

Automatic regular Back Ups are very practical to keep data safe if you have not time to make it by yourself. On the other hand, you could get Windows 10 to delete older Backups automatically in order to avoid filling up your hard disk capacity quickly.

How to restore backed up files

If you want to restore all these backed up data, you can just click on the Start Menu in the Windows 10 taskbar and type File History into the Search bar.

Select the Restore your files with file history option and you will open a window that displays all the folders that are backed-up onto external hard drive.

Others alternatives

The Windows 10 Back Up service is a basic tool that helps you to make basic Files and System Back Ups, however, if you are looking for a more specific tool to keep your data safe, we recommend you to use MYSecureOnlineBackup.

MySecureOnlineBackup is the most comprehensible online backup on the market and it has a partnership with MOZY, worldwide leader on online backup.

This tool is Simple, Automatic, Secure, Stored in a Secured environment and Low cost.

Definitely a good choice!
